A very widely distributed species, occuring mainly in bushveld, grassland and seasonally wet areas. It is a popular garden plant and do well in large pots. The bulbs are hardy and long lived, producing a number of striking flower stems each season. Used in traditional medicine for backache, as well as bladder and kidney disease.
