This is a large species that grows on flat dorerite outcrops surrounded by afro-montane forest. This form has only been recorded in one locality in Isidenge near Stutterheim. The flowers are pollinated by sunbirds. They grow and flower well in cultivation in humus-rich well drained medium with regular drenches during summer.
