Bulletrap
Haemanthus coccineus
Amaryllidaceae
H.coccineus is one of the most variable and widely distributed species of haemanthus, occuring in both summer and winter rainfall regions. Its a striking plant with its large glaucous leaves and scarlet flowers. Its a great species for collectors due to the varying habitat forms where size, flowers and leaves can be very different. They do very well in larger pots, in a well-drianed sandy medium. This form from a very dry region of Northern Cape has the largest leaves of all our coccineus, slightly pinky-red flowers with speckled stems as opposed to deep scarlet like most others.
