Lambert's Bay
Haemanthus coccineus
Amaryllidaceae
H.coccineus is one of the most variable and widely distributed species of haemanthus, occuring in both summer and winter rainfall regions. Its a striking plant with its large glaucous leaves and scarlet flowers. Its a great species for collectors due to the varying habitat forms where size, flowers and leaves can be very different. They do very well in larger pots, in a well-drianed sandy medium. A medium sized plant with pinky-red flowers as opposed to the more common scarlet colour.
