H.coccineus is one of the most variable and widely distributed species of haemanthus, occuring in both summer and winter rainfall regions. Its a striking plant with its large glaucous leaves and scarlet flowers. Its a great species for collectors due to the varying habitat forms where size, flowers and leaves can be very different. They do very well in larger pots, in a well-drianed sandy medium.This form from Baviaanskloof gets large, it grows in a summer rainfall climate, although still has its growing season in winter like the other coccineus forms. Flower stems have no markings, although it has the most heavily marked leaves of all forms.
