Watsonia knysnana, or Knysna Bugle Lily, is a robust, clump-forming perennial endemic to South Africa’s Eastern and Western Cape. It features sword-shaped, leathery leaves in a tight fan, reaching up to 80cm, with striking flower spikes growing up to 1.5m. Summer brings vibrant blooms in hues ranging from pink and cream to deep red, often on branched stems. For best growth, plant in full sun with well-drained, compost-rich soil; it tolerates both winter and summer rainfall but prefers some moisture during the growing season. There are no recorded traditional medicinal uses for this species, but its dramatic flowers are a valuable garden addition.
