Amatole Mountains
Moraea reticulata
Iridaceae
Moraea reticulata is an autumn-flowering, bulbous perennial native to South Africa’s Amathola Mountains region. It grows as scattered individual plants rather than clumps, with very long, often reclining leaves on the ground. The plant reaches up to around 80 cm tall, featuring large, striking yellow flowers borne on rigid, shorter stems. Moraea reticulata thrives best in full sun with well-drained, humus-rich soil, benefiting from a moderately moist growing season and dry dormancy. It is named for the distinctive fibrous or reticulate network at the base of its stem and leaves.
