Watsonia angusta, commonly called the Red Watsonia or Bugle Lily, is a striking, hardy, evergreen perennial native to South Africa. Reaching heights up to 1m, this plant forms clumps of upright, sword-shaped grey-green leaves. In late spring and summer, it produces spikes of curved, tubular, vibrant red flowers beloved by sunbirds. Watsonia angusta thrives in full sun with well-drained, moist soil, but once established, it is drought tolerant and copes with a variety of conditions, including occasional cold down to -3°C. Traditionally, parts of the plant have been used to treat fever, coughs, and colds.
