Shire Wild Bulbs and Nursery

Nerine

An attractive genus of 23 species, most of which are from the summer rainfall region of South Africa. Their beautifully delicate flowers and often attractive foliage makes them popular among gardeners and collectors, and are easily grown in the garden or in pots. Evergreen species require a lot of sun, sharply drained compost-rich soil and regular watering in their summer growing period. Summer-growing species require compost-rich soil, should be watered once a week and do best if kept dry during winter. The four winter-growing species do best in a well-drained (bark and river sand), slightly acid soil with a layer of well decomposed compost in the bottom of the pot. Water once a week in the growing season.
