The genus consists of 2 species, both well worth growing as ornamental plants. Popular for their long lasting flowers and glossy undulated leaves. Do very well as container plants although the 2 species have very different requirements. V.capensis requires well drained sandy soil, a lot of sun and a dry summer dormant period. V.bracteata enjoy shady positions and compost rich soil but are so versatile they can grow well in most soils and can handle a lot of water all year round.
