Commonly known as paint-brush and fire-ball lilies, Scadoxus are one of the highlights of African bulbous flora and comprise of 9 species. Their lush foliage and large spectacular flowers make them popular garden and container plants for shady areas. They require a well-drained, slightly acidic compost-rich growing medium. Deciduous species require regular watering in the summer growing season and occasional watering in the winter dormant period. Evergreen species can handle regular watering in winter which makes them great subjects for planting under trees in the garden.
