There are 16 species of Freesia, most of which occur in the winter rainfall region of South Africa. Popular among growers for the elegant, sweetly scented flowers, they generally prefer a sunny to lightly shaded environment. They prefer a fairly well drained, slightly composted growing medium with a pH close to neutral. Generally quite easy to grow and flower reliably each year.
